Week 9 Reading Diary: Ramayana: India's Immortal Tale of Adventure, Love and Wisdom

For my reading Diary, I am currently on my section three and there are four parts to this section. While reading all of them I thought the most interesting one that I wanted to write about was “We shall bring Rama back”. I liked it a lot and of course I am also looking for stories about Rama. If you have read any of my stories, Rama is in mostly all of them. Rama will also be my favorite character and has continued to be my favorite throughout the different stories evolving him. He just seems to be all over the place in the stories and it seems like the authors tend to right about him a lot as well. For this story in specific the title gives it away. Rama has left but many of the characters in this story want him back after his father sent him into exile. Whenever Rama left it seems like Bharata has been worried about what they should do. He talks to his father like what should we do and how should act without him gone. His father basically told him to calm down and he will also be there for his people while Rama is in the forest. As the story went on the kingdom was beginning to fall apart in a way. It seemed like the kingdom was struggling without Rama there and the citizens wanted Rama to come back and help them regain order in the kingdom. This story was really good and I am excited to read the last part.

The Farewell

“Why do we have to leave our palace, Rama?” Sita says.

Rama responds, “ My love, we have too. I have been chosen to show my father that I am a great warrior."

Sita then says, “ Your father should know that you are the almighty solider, and are already capable of leading this kingdom." We should go to him now and beg him to give you control of the Kingdom."

“ My beloved, I do not think my father will approve of this. I need to prove to him I am ready,” Rama says.

As they talk, they are also walking to the palace to see Dasharatha and say their goodbyes one more time. Sita then says a bold statement to Rama before they enter.

“ I have been by your side and I know what you can do for this kingdom. Do not shy away from the task at hand. Please Rama, ask for permission to lead,” Sita says.

Rama quietly says, “ Maybe you are correct and if I believe it is the right time, I will bring your thoughts to his attention."

As they are walking toward the palace, they are surrounded by many of the citizens that want the same thing as Sita. They have wanted Rama to take control of the kingdom for quite some time. There have even been rumors around the kingdom that if the king lets his son leave then the citizens will follow and create a new city in the Ayodhya forest, which is where Rama and his companions, Sita and Laksman plan on going.

As they get closer to the entrance, someone in the crowd yells, “Do not leave us, our great Rama” and people begin to cheer and yell for Rama not to leave.

Sita then says, “I told you, Rama. I am not the only one that will support you being leader. You have this whole city at your feet and it is your time to grasp the throne. “

Rama in shock responds, “ I love my father and he has done well for the people of this city. I will not take it away from him unless his power is given to me."

As they enter the palace and reach the room where the king is, they are greeted by all of his wives. To Rama's disbelief his father begins to run to him.

“Rama” he says in a saddened tone, “I will not let you leave this palace. I demand you to take my chair and lead this kingdom."

Rama confused says, “ Are you sure, Father? I did not ask for all this, but I will do what you ask of me. I will lead this kingdom to prosper in riches and in happiness."

Rama's Farewell

Author’s Note:  I am basing by story of off Rama and his two companions saying their farewells. Basically during this story, Rama and his companions are going to exile in the forest. While this was about to happen the king knows he cannot keep control of the kingdom and plans on giving it to his sons before his leaves into exile. While in my story, I have kept the plot almost the same but in this case I am telling the readers that Sita tries to convince Rama to take control of the kingdom. I have also chosen this image because it represents Rama and Sita leaving the kingdom in my opinion. I thought this was a great picture to also represent my story. Kaikeyi was also a big part of the story but I have to think about a way to bring her in. I chose this story because I liked it and the plot but most of all it involved Rama. I also thought it was good for me because I knew I could work with it. I also think I made for a pretty good story because I included dialogue but also kept the plot somewhat the same. The purpose of this story is to create a new setting and include more dialogue but also to keep somewhat of the same plot.
