Storytelling for Week 9: The Farewell

“Why do we have to leave our palace Rama,” Sita says.

Rama responds, “ We have to my love, I have been chosen to show my father that I am a great warrior”.

Sita then says, “ Your father should know that you are the almighty solider, and are already cable of leading this kingdom”. “We should go to him now and beg him to give you control of the Kingdom”.

“ My beloved, I do not think my father will approve of this, I need to prove to him I am ready,” Rama says.

As they talk, they are also walking to the palace to see Dasarahta and say their goodbyes one time. Sita then says a bold statement to Rama before they enter.

“ I have been by your side and I know what you can do for this kingdom, do not shy away from the task at hand, please Rama ask for permission to lead,” Sita says.

Rama quietly says, “ Maybe you are correct and if I believe it is the right time, I will bring your thoughts to his attention.

As they are walking toward the palace, they are surrounded by many of the citizens that want the same thing as Sita. They have wanted Rama to take control of the kingdom for quite sometime. There as even been rumors around the kingdom that if the king lets his son leave then the citizens will follow and create a new city in the Ayodhya forest, which is where Rama, his companions, Sita and Laksman plan on going.

As they get closer to the entrance, someone in the crowd yells “do not leave us our great Rama” and people begin to cheer and yell for Rama not to leave.

Sita then says, “I told you Rama, I am not the only one that will support you being leader, you have this whole city at your feet and it is your time to grasp the throne. “

Rama in shock responds, “ I love my father and he has done well for the people of this city, I will not take it away from him unless given too.”

As they enter the palace and reach the room where the king is, they are greeted by all of his wives. To Rama disbelief his father begins to run to him.

“Rama” he says in a sadden tone, “I will not let you leave this palace, I demand you to take my chair and lead this kingdom”.

Rama confused says, “ Are you sure father, I did not ask for all this, but I will do what you ask of me”. “I will lead this kingdom to prosper in riches and in happiness”.

  1. Thomas,
I like your version of the farewells a lot more than the original. Rama definitely was the most suitable person to take the thrown over for his father. The only thing I noticed in your story was a few spelling and grammatical errors so just be sure to proof read before, or even revise after, you post it. I know I am really bad at it too especially when I am in a rush to meet the deadline. Overall I really liked the story and how simple and straight to the point it was. Besides the ending being a lot more pleasant, you kept a majority of the details the same.

  2. Thomas, I loved how short and sweet this story was. You set up the scene perfectly and got to the point right away! It was a fun read and I love how you changed up ending. I agree that Rama should have never been sent to exile. He deserved the kingdom. Great job on your week 9 story!
